Mail Pouch Tobacco Sign — The Icon of Backroad America, Delivered to Your Doorstep.

This 24” by 48” hand-painted Mail Pouch Tobacco sign is inspired by one of America’s most iconic barn murals — faded, weathered, and full of character. The original artwork I found was painted directly on a barn in Cincinnati, Ohio. Unlike traditional signs, these were murals meant to cover barn sides and be seen from the road. Over 20,000 Mail Pouch signs were painted and documented in 1961 & less than half of those still exist today. 

Fun Fact: Like their black counterparts, red Mail Pouch signs were rarely hand-painted by traveling sign painters because they could not routinely keep the colors fresh with regular maintenance that red paint required.

Now, you can bring a piece of fading roadside history home with you. Each sign is hand-painted and aged by hand to capture the same timeworn charm of the original barn signs.
